Arlen Brown, B.Sc.PT, Physiotherapist/Owner

An intense interest in the injury and recovery process as a boy and a desire to have a challenging profession with a lot of variety led Arlen Brown into his career as a physiotherapist.

“I always wanted a career in the medical field and I wanted to have time to help people in need,” he says, noting that he also wanted to be able to achieve that and still have a healthy family life.

He achieved his Bachelor of Science in Physical Therapy from the University of Alberta and took special certification in Gunn Intramuscular Stimulation, an innovative and highly effective technique of dry needling, from the University of British Columbia.

With more than a decade of physical therapy experience in orthopedic and sports physical therapy, Arlen opened his own firm in 2008, providing physical therapy services to Sexsmith and Grand Prairie.

He continues to learn and expand his practice, and is currently working to become a Fellow of the Canadian Academy of Manual and Manipulative Physical Therapy (FCAMPT). His six seasons as team physiotherapist for local junior hockey teams also sparked his keen interest in sporting injuries and rehabilitation.

He is a member of the College and Association of Physical Therapists of Alberta and the Canadian Physiotherapy Association, including the orthopedic division, the sports division and the private practice division.

When he is not working he enjoys outings with his wonderful wife and four daughters as well as running, playing basketball and golf, reading, and playing the guitar and trombone.

LeRoy Shaw, M.P.T., Physiotherapist

LeRoy Thomas Shaw has a Bachelor of Science in Exercise Science from the University of Lethbridge and a Master of Physical Therapy from the University of Alberta.

He is currently working on his certification in Level 1 Manual Therapy.

He joined Sexsmith Physiotherapy Jan. 16, 2017.

His decision to embrace physiotherapy as a career started when he was working on his exercise science degree. He knew he wanted to work in that field, but was considering the options of how to apply it.

Two options branched out: he could become a personal trainer or a physical therapist. After weighing the pros and cons and discussing it with his wife, he decided that physical therapy was the course he would follow.

A husband and father of three young children, when he is not working he enjoys resistance training, snowboarding, and camping in the summer.

Jody Armstrong, RMT, Massage Therapist

The longer Jody works with people with different issues she appreciates the individual detail of each client and takes their treatments very seriously.

In 2002 Jody took her Equine Massage course in Calgary which in turn sparked her interest in learning more about massage therapy for humans.  Once she realized there were many options for helping people who were either in pain or just needing stimulation to help the body feel better, she jumped at it.

She took her course at the Northern Institute of Massage Therapy in Red Deer while she was working full time as an Administrative Assistant.  She graduated from NIMT in 2006 with the 2200 hour program, which is accredited for direct billing to insurance companies and continues to stay updated in the latest studies by taking continued education courses on a regular basis.  Jody was immediately registered with the Natural Health Practitioners of Canada and began her career.

She provides deep tissue massage to continually work on decreasing aches and pain affiliated with stress and muscle conditions.  She also has experience in working with deep tissue, myofascial release, infant/child massage, pregnancy massage, trigger point therapy, relaxation and stress management, sprains and strains, whiplash injuries, fibromyalgia, post surgical massage and sports injuries.

When she is not working she is spending time with her family, barrel racing, involved with many outdoor activities and encouraging others who have the same interests to follow their dreams.
